After tasting the Waitrose Amaretti Swiss Plain Chocolate Bar this William Curley Dark Chocolate with Chilli was a huge disappointment.
I’ve tasted a fair amount of chilli chocolate recently and the reason I do is that I love the taste of the chilli when mixed with the chocolate. The issue I have with this William Curley chocolate bar is that there is almost no flavour of the chilli coming through at all.
The Tipyn Back Dark Chocolate With Chilli bar is less than half the price and from an almost unknown chocolatier and is substantially more enjoyable.
I issue isn’t really with the quality of the chocolate, which is up to their usual standards, just the absence of any any other flavour. The taste I have coming through each bite is almost a cherry one.
The bar is dark, rich and immanently enjoyable, but there is just that one ingredient missing. At £3 for just 50g, it is over 4 times more expensive as the Waitrose Amaretti bar I also reviewed today.
Hold the press, I can taste a bit of chilli coming through. It’s like a soft Autumn mist slowly enveloping the valleys. There’s certainly no crescendo of flavour here.
Rating:
Taste: 65% – I’m going to rate it that highly despite the absence of at least a mild flavour as the quality of the chocolate is very good.
Texture: 65% – Smooth as ever
Appearance: 60% – I’m undecided on this one. I can’t rate it highly as I believe they’re being tight with their packaging. Either that or supremely confident that the chocolate will sell itself.
Nutritional Information: 50% – They have some, but I suppose they don’t sell enough to warrant all the scientific investigation.
Overall: 60% – massively dissapointed.
