I’m just working through my collection of chocolate bars which I haven’t had time to review before but which are coming to the end of their best before dates. Today I’ll try the Thorntons White Fruit Bars.
The problem is that I’ve left this so long Thorntons no longer sell them anymore, but they do sell some other fruit chocolates, and of course, a whole load of white chocolate.
Of course I don’t know how much this started pack cost, but I’d hazard a guess at £3.49 at which point I think it’s great value. Having recently tried a lot of fruity chocolates including some really imaginative ones from Melt and Paul A. Young I’ve really got in the moody for fruity, acidic chocolate. Even though they’re mixed with white chocolate, I thought they were pretty fantastic to be honest.
The first I tried was the mini Blood Orange White Chocolate Bar which looked great – so cute indeed. The individual squares are tiny, but the chocolate itself packs one heck of a punch! It’s incredibly acidic, but with a nice, rounded flavour – loved it.
The Blackberry bar was great too, but with a deeper flavour and a bit more granular. Very enjoyable.
Next up was the Strawberry white chocolate bar. This one I didn’t like as much as the James Chocolates Strawberry with Black Pepper as that had the extra dimension of the black pepper. Although this Thorntons version was still very enjoyable and incredibly creamy.
I must admit that I’ve got a soft spot for chocolate and banana and loved the Melt Chocolates Milk Chocolate With Banana. In this version the banana flavour works well with the white chocolate up to a point, and then subsides into a very rustic, rural and over-ripe flavour that does distract from the overall mix of flavours and at the end there’s actually an under-ripe note. I wanted more from this one. Alas, I was disappointed.
The Passion Fruit white chocolate bar was the last in the box and had a very mellow flavour, I could hardly pick it out from the white chocolate. That was until it had completely melted and I was met with a very sweet note which was incredibly pleasant.
