I’ve been blessed recently with absolutely fantastic chocolate truffles recently, not least from My Chocolate Bar and seeing as they’re perhaps my favourite type of chocolate I thought I’d try out the Thorntons Organic Truffle Collection. But, compared to the others I’ve tried, these were a massive disappointment.
The first I tried was the milk chocolate one was just simply “OK”, there’s not much more I can say about it. There’s no perfusion of taste, your mouth will not cry out for more, they’re just like boiled peas: they do the job but there’s no real satisfaction in eating them and these truffles just remind me of a dusty charity shop.
The white chocolate truffle was also fairly average. However, the shell was a touch crispier and the flavour a bit more well-rounded. However, its still not something I’d get too excited about trying again.
The dark chocolate truffle did have the aroma similar to the Michel Cluizel ganaches, however the flavour was so much more bitter and a less complex taste. I definitely wouldn’t be trying this one again.
The orange one was actually very pleasant, nothing out of this world, but one I could eat over and over again without getting bored of.
And not being a big caramel fan I wasn’t looking forward to that one too much. However, I loved the very crispy shell and the caramel inside was also very pleasant.
Rating:
Taste: 40% – less than average.
Texture: 40% – again, nothing special.
Appearance: 55% – the box design was attractive, but I’d expect more inside, even though they are nicely placed to prevent damage.
Nutritional Information: 80% – some good information avaliable.
Price: 30% – at £9 a box of 240g I wouldn’t say it was worth the money.
Overall: 49% – buy something else from them.
