I’m not supposed to like white chocolate. I’ve got it on my list of things I don’t like along with sweetcorn and olives. But that’s all changed with this Strawberry White Chocolate With Black Pepper from The Chocolate Cafe. The only time I was exposed to white chocolate as a child was when I was given a Milky Bar and that sickly, creamy taste has regretably stayed with me.
There is an alternative now as this bar breaks through that exceptionally rich flavour with the acidity offered by the strawberry which greatly reduces that tone. What’s more, the black pepper seems to sprinkle the top of the taste range with a bit of savoury.
The bar is incredibly sweet, which I actually prefer than the dairy aspect of the Milky Bar and does remind me of the strawberry milkshakes you can get (I think still) from McDonalds. I’ve polished off half of it in no time at all as it incredibly moreish and leads me to think that this may actually be the first bar of white chocolate I would actually buy again if I saw it on the shelves.
Overall it may be a sweeter alternative to the dark chocolate variety than Berry Scrumptious and a much nicer version than the James bar, but I couldn’t eat it in great quantities. It’d be more of a bar I’d keep in the cupboard to nibble on whilst the kettle was boiling and I needed a bit of a sweet kick.
