Space Food – Milk Chocolate Chip Ice Cream
So I thought I’d like to try something different. Burning a fiver would have been different (as I’m so tight) and would have probably been more enjoyable than putting some of this freeze dried, freaky-tasting “stuff” in my gob. But seeing as I’ve reviewed chocolate covered insects why not try some freeze dried Mint Choc Chip Ice Cream? It couldn’t possibly be worse – could it?
I know Ben & Jerry’s is expensive, but this is a staggering £4.99 for a block that measures just 7cm x 7cm x 2cm. What’s more there’s no instruction on the packet. Of course this isn’t the actual product that goes up into space where you’d expect astronauts to to know what to do with it. But I had to trawl the internet to see if I needed to add anything to it in a Pot Noodle kind of sense. I eventually found out that this flower-arranging oasis had to be put into my mouth “as is”. Yuck.
It looks like an angular bath bomb, and actually manages to smell less appealing that it looks. In fact, my brother used to work for a milk packing company and the smell of this ‘ice cream’ block reminded me of how he used to when he came home from an eight hour shift! Like a lactating cow has been smothering him all day.
Having plonked the smallest broken piece I could find into my mouth, I just let it sit there. Like the local bus service, I waited and waited some more. I looked like a complete idiot having this in my mouth and probably would pass for a drug mule going through customs – I tried not to flinch from this never-ending discomfort. Eventually it started to ‘melt’ and turn into a gooey substance – which was actually nothing like ice cream. Not even Aldi ice cream.
When I did actually find a piece with some chocolate in I was less fixated on the strange creaminess. But alas, we’re not talking good quality chocolate here. But what do you expect? This is a gimmick intended on extracting as much money out of geeks as possible – it sure worked on me!
I won’t be giving any sort of rating as its not a serious product. But if you wanted to buy it, I got mine from Firebox, but I expect you can find it cheaper elsewhere.
