When I first took the photos for these truffles they’d only just come out of the fridge so the chocolate coating was very brittle and came away in a large chunk – leaving the Rum & Cola filling. When you come to try them, I suggest you take a good, hearty bite at them to ensure the filling comes away with the shell. That is, of course if you don’t prefer to eat chocolates by their layers.
The filling is beautiful, its definitely got the rum flavour and the cola flavour makes an appearance too. They’ve definitely know how to make Rum & Cokes as well as chocolate truffles! When you do manage to take a bit of the centre and the chocolate coating the flavour balance is spot on. I would be hard to find a chocolate truffle with an alcohol flavour that could beat these – not even Champagne truffles come close!
It must have something to do with that they use great quality rum in these truffles in the form Angostura 1919 Rum which they use that makes them so special. My rum of choice is Mount Gay which is a smooth rum, but I’ll have to try some of the rum they use now.
If you’re looking for a chocolate birthday or Christmas present for a rum lover then these certainly should be on your list!
The only problem I have with them is how can I compare them to the other truffles I’ve tried from MyChocolateBar? They’re just exceptional, although I do fear that not everyone will like them due to their alcoholic content. It just means more for us however!
