Organic And Raw Dark Chocolate Bar From Conscious

After the Charbonnel et Walker Banoffee Truffles I fancied something a bit more wholesome and a litte less sweet. Nothing against the truffles, its just the temperature has risen since this morning and in this weather I find you still have your cravings but feel less inclined to go for sugary confectionery – and this is where the Conscious chocolate bars come in.

Emma, who’s responsible for the fine raw and organic products at Conscious recommended I try the “Intense” 80% and following her advice, I did. For those interested, this bar is made with cocoa powder from Ecuador as well as cocoa butter and agave nectar to sweeten the other ingredients.

As with the Lucuma Gold bar I tried the other day, this one is also free from pesticides, dairy, soya and gluten which lets you satisfy your soul as well as your inner cocolate fiend.

Some might think that as the chocolate bar is free from many things and is raw then it won’t be anything like “real” chocolate. However, the doubters would be disappointed. The aroma is distinctly chocolaty – its rich, warm and inviting. Whats more, I’ve tasted a lot of Divine organic chocolate and even the Amatller Ghana Single Origin 85% Dark Chocolate Bar which do have a slight “farmyard” flavour to it, however this one is as good as can be, but doesn’t give any of those odd flavours.

I’m finding it very hard to describe the texture. It’s not at all granular, the individual ingredients do hold together exceptionally well as it melts in your mouth. It’s also very light in the weight sense, its not dense and heavy and is very unlikely to make you feel bloated or like you’ve over indulged.

I haven’t tested it in the warm weather of today to see how it’d fair in the sun. But I’m sure it would be great for kids to take to school as shouldn’t melt easily. Also I suggest it’d be great as part of a picnic.

I must confess that virtually all the bar has gone now. When reviewing chocolate for this blog I often only have a few nibbles of each and then place the rest in a box for friends and family. However, none of them will be getting their hands on this one!
