Pleasure & Pain VERY HOT Dark Chocolate

I reviewed the Pleasure & Pain Chilli Chocolate Easter Egg on the sister site to this blog and it was awesome! So I decided to get some to review here – and yikes this was hotter!

The packaging makes it look like its fairly innocuous, just the scantly clad lady with a trident gives it a way. When you flip it over you’ll see there’s a health warning about washing any areas that get the chocolate in out with water.

If you wanted to know how hot it is just look that 0.3% of it is Naga Jolokia Chilli powder. This may not sound a lot, but boy this is one hot fella. I was speaking to a friend on instant messenger at the time and there was about five minutes of profanities as my taste buds got back to normal again. It really is that hot!

Now I got this from Handy Candy for £3.49 and they say its “finest”. I’d disagree when you consider I’ve tasted some great chocolate from people such as Valrhona and Amedei Chuao but I’m sure many will love it.

When you actually sniff the chocolate (some may do that) then there’s little to give away how hot it is. There’s only a slight irritation in your nostril. But its when you taste it that your taste buds will start to complain. Not because the chocolate isn’t nice, but because its just so darn hot!

But, if these things are important to you then you’ll be glad to know there’s no artificial colouring or flavouring in the chocolate and that its also gelatine free. I hope that takes your mind off the “pain” you’ll feel when you eventually buy some to see if I’m actually telling the truth.

Review:
Taste: 70% – Very hot and slightly distracts from the flavour of the chocolate
Texture: 65% – You can’t fault but its not as smooth as some I’ve tasted
Price: 60% – At £3.49 it’s not cheap!
Overall: 65% – nice for a one off, but I’m not sure you’ll be going back for more!
