I thought I’d try something a bit different so I popped over to Goodness Direct and got myself some Plamil Dairy Free Chocolate with Shelled Hemp which, to summarise was, er, different!
Perhaps I’m just used to chocolate with added sugar and a more chocolaty taste, but this one had the distinct taste of the shelled hemp seeds and I’m not sure if Zylitol has a taste, but I could definitely recognise a different kind of flavour.
The packaging highlights that the factory that made this chocolate bar hadn’t had nuts in it, furthermore it contains no animal, egg or dairy ingredients. Also it contains no wheat or gluten or starch, and furthermore, there are no genetically modified ingredients.
I don’t know if its just pre-conceived thoughts, but the aroma of the Plamil Dairy Free Chocolate was very “natural” whilst the flavour wasn’t something I’m accustomed to and, probably, wouldn’t seek out again – its just not indulging enough. Perhaps I should be thinking of moral and ethical indulgement instead of my taste buds being tantalised? But what’s the point of buying chocolate then?
Rating:
Taste: 40% – Just a bit strange to me
Texture: 65% – strangely I love the texture and liked the hemp within it
Price: 65% – at £1.98 you can’t really argue with the price.
Overall: 56.7% – not bad value, but if you’re not used to natural produce then don’t expect something like you’ve tasted before.
