The packaging is another fantastic design from a smaller chocolate manufacturer: NewTree which is based in Belgium and make a wide variety of fine chocolate with a selection of subtle flavours and they categorise them not so much by those flavours, but by how they should make you feel. This Ginger one is called “sexy” whilst there are others called “Pleasure”, “Eternity”, “Young”, “Digest”, “Vivacity”, “Tranquility”, “Serenity”, “Cocoon”, “Bikini”, “Freezing” and “Pink”. The claim is that these chocolates are rich in antioxidants and also stimulate or relaxing properties for your digestion or are rich in soy isoflavons. Even if you’re not interested in the potential health benefits, you should be interested in the fantastic flavour that you’ll find NewTree Chocolate.
On to the review, there is a slight organic aroma to the chocolate but this is more than dominated by the rich ginger aroma that really draws you into the chocolate. And then you’re compelled to break off a piece and taste it. The flavour is fantastic. It would be so easy for the ginger to over-power the dark chocolate taste, but it doesn’t. The two flavours complement each other with extreme success. I don’t think I’ve tasted ingredients combine so well with chocolate since the Dark Chocolate with Cherries and Almonds the other day.
I normally just nibble a bit of the chocolate, however, on this occasion I’ve nearly finished the lot. The only thing that has stopped me is that thought that my mother would absolutely adore this. So, back in the box it goes.
Taste: 95% – rarely have I tasted something so delightful
Texture: 90% – nice and crispy
Price: 85% – fantastic and change for a £2 coin? Too right!
Overall: 90% – a must buy if you’re visiting Sainsbury’s. Actually, make a special treat.
If this NewTree Sexy Ginger Dark Chocolate bar was a song it would be: Enrique Iglesias – Wish I Was Your Lover
