New Tree – 20 Chocolates and 4 Flavours

Now I’m having trouble finding this box of 20 mini New Tree chocolates on the internet which appears to be an introduction to their range fantastic chocolate creations. I’ve already tried the Sexy Ginger and the Lavender Milk chocolate and they were absolutely fantastic but in two complelety different ways. The first is very stimulating whilst the later is a great chocolate to have to unwind with at the end of a hectic day. In this box, however, there are two flavours I’m new to: the cinnamon and the dark chocolate.

I’ve tried the Montezuma’s Organic white chocolate with Cinnamon which I didn’t find was all that great, and neither did my poker pals. When I went to try the New Tree Cinnamon chocolate I thought it had the aroma of peanut butter on toast! Thankfully it didn’t taste in any way like a breakfast food. When you actually try the chocolate there’s a distinct sweetness to it with the cinnnamon flavour only just breaking out from the chocolate taste – its certainly less obvious than the ginger or lavender, but still delightful in its own way. It’s nickname is “cocoon” which is a wonderful description as I can just see people cocooning themselves in their living room with a duvet over them (or indeed, a slanket) and hiding from the world.

Being a lover of dark chocolate I was looking forward to the NewTree version the most. At 73% it is smack bang in the middle of the dark chocolate range so should appeal to most. Now its not going to compete with the Pralus Bresil but it does actually have a lovely roundness and richness to it. You could easily pick out some earthy tones with give it some addded texture and made it into a dark chocolate experience that far exceeded expectations.

I did really enjoy the four flavours in the box, however, there’s the Chilli, Thyme, Coffee, blackcurrant, lemon (oh yes!), grape, mint, orange and apricot flavours that I haven’t tried yet.

And, if you wanted to buy New Tree Chocolates, you can from:

* Real Food Direct
* Ocado

I know the NewTree team liked it when I related their “Sexy” ginger chocolate as Wish I Was Your Lover by Enrique Iglesias, so I’m going to say this collection reminded me of the acoustic version of Iris by the Goo Goo Girls as its its melow and medative whilst still having a strong artistic character – especially the Cocoon chocolate and the lyrics “I don’t want the world to see me as I don’t think they’ll know who I am”:
