On my recent work related trip down to Bath I came accross Mr Simms Olde Sweet Shoppe and thought I’d get a few of their chocolates – and one of them I came out of the store with was the Mint Choc Chip bar. This bar is 120g of light green white chocolate with chocolate chips set into it and was actually made by Daniel’s Delights.
In the store there was a good amount of chocolate to choose from and featured a good wide range of these chocolate bars. But I decided to plump for two bars, this one and a Cinder Crunch bar, but there were many other types to choose from.
Part of the reason I bought this bar is that I just love mint chocolate – as can be seen by the recent review of the Raspberry and Mint bar I tried the other day.
I knew this Mint Choco Chip bar wasn’t going to be any Grand Crus collection and was more targeted at children but it actually wasn’t all that bad. It wasn’t overly minty but was slightly more minty than the average mint choc chip ice cream you’d probably buy. It did, however, have an underlying white chocolate taste that I just don’t think goes if you actually try and consciously think of the taste. Most won’t, and that’s its saving grace.
The packaging was also very low cost and does look like it was made to a tight budget, with every retailer producing their own labels to go on them.
At a retail price of £2.49 I do feel its over-price for what you get. I’d suggest a price of around £1.99 to £2.19 – but who am I to argue, they obviously do sell a fair number.
Rating:
Taste: 60% – I like mint choc chip, but it wasn’t really for me.
Texture: 60% – it was very difficult to break even though it hadn’t been in the fridge.
Appearance: 40% – more could have been done with the packaging.
Nutritional Information: 60% – the basic information was there, plus information such that it may contain soya and nuts etc.
Price: 55% – I did feel it was a bit over-priced.
Overall: 55% – if you’re in a Mr Simms, perhaps you should try some of their other chocolate bars?
