Mauxion Milk Chocolate With Raisins & Hazelnuts Bar

Being a 60p bar of chocolate from an unknown brand I was very wary of what I’d get. I’ve thought for that Asda aren’t very adventurous with their chocolates and although they’ve recently extended their range, I think they should move further into providing quality chocolates and not providing chocolate like this bar.

The packaging wasn’t all that interesting, but as its new I suppose many others would be inclined to give it a go. The funny thing was that I was watching other people make their chocolate choices and many people moved quickly passed these cheaper options and to the more expensive ones such as the Extra Special organic range (which I’ll be reviewing later on). They also do chocolate for 27p but so far I haven’t and the guts to try it. May be next time.

Well this Mauxion Milk Chocolate With Raisins & Hazelnuts Bar at first tasted nearly as bad as the Charles Orion Chocolate Bar in that there wasn’t a great deal of flavour at all. I thought that there must be some so took another mouthful. The next attempt wasn’t as bad as the first – there was a taste of raisins, but not the hazelnuts apparently should have been in there.

I knew it wasn’t going to be all that good just by the sheen on the chocolate and how it looked overly manufactured. I don’t know how to explain it other than it looked like a plastic mold of chocolate rather than chocolate itself.

The thing I perhaps need to realise that there’s chocolate for everyone. There may be some people out there that love this very bland, uninteresting flavour. Now compare that bar to something like the Amedei Porcelana 70% Dark chocolate – now I know its dark chocolate, but the difference in complexity of flavour and richness of texture are miles apart. Yes I know that its 13 times the price, but there’s a world of difference. If you really wanted to spend under a Pound and get some very nice chocolate then pop down to your nearest Lidl and splash out 99p on some J.D. Gross Premium Cocoa chocolate (they do a Milk chocolate version).

Rating:

Taste: 45% – bland, un-interesting, avoid.

Texture: 35% – overly polished, boring.

Appearance: 45% – appears like its not actually a food stuff.

Price: 56% – you can’t argue at the price, but because it doesn’t taste nice the value for money factor is dimished.

Nutritional Information: 40% – way too small to read and no RDA information

Overall: 44.2% – not nice at all. I can’t wait for my top quality chocolate from the Chocolate Trading Company to arrive soon!!
