Because the Double Trouble Fudge I tried last time out was so unbelievably good, I was in such a hurry to review this Belgian Chocolate Swirl fudge that I forgot to put the memory card in the camera – doh! So you’ve got “after” and “after” photos instead of “before and after”. Hopefully you’ll still like them!
This slab of fudge had a tough act to follow seeing as the Double Trouble had an overall score if 97%. So it was very unlikely that this one was going to match it. This slab of fudge gave it a good go, though, but came up shorter. But it is testament to the fantastic fudge that the Fudge Kitchen make that it was still sublime.
The texture is much the same; a crispy shell housing fantastically soft and moist inner fudge. It’ll literally melt in a few seconds in your mouth. But this one had a more complex nature to the flavour than the last – I can taste vanilla, occasional chocolate notes which has a slight nutty edge.
The chocolate swirls definitely add a compelling counterbalancing character. But with so many different varieties (I desperately want to try the Lemon Meringue flavour one that a friend has already tried) you’re always going to get some that you like more than others.
Half the fun of their website is looking at the flavours they have online and trying to choose the 4,8,12,16 of the most appealing ones. And as we’re approaching Valentines, they do a Valentines fudge box with a Strawberries and Cream, one of these Belgian Chocolate Swirls, an After Dinner Mint one and a Mocha Choca Swirl – wouldn’t that be a great gift for a loved one? I doubt I’ll get one though :-(
I did like this one, but I think I’m going to like the next one more. It’s the Classic Chocolate Fudge!
