Hey Lee, I do have the same box (gift from Vera Hofman). I like the chocolate but I think these small squares of chocolate are to expensive. Ok for the chocolate but the packaging !!!
Original Beans Beni Wild (Felchlin) is my favorite of all Beni's.
Greetings
Geert

Nice work Lee, totally agree with your findings, some of these bars are very special to taste and unique to use for bonbons. I like there (Nat&David) way how they look at chocolate, very origin some times very different than we use to think of how chocolate must taste,
Thanks for this review,
Geert

I like the touch of chocolate one, I had them as I wanted to eat more healthy snacks rather than cake, etc.! and I think that they support animal aid the charity. But biting into one was like eating an expensive truffle, a delight. Pity that they don't sell larger boxes for slightly less money per bar though as there are only 4 in a box. Also they don't have the gingerbread one at my supermarket.

Thanks for the clarification, Lee. If you would, what source(s) are you using for your info? And are you saying the Capuchin friars brought cacao to Ecuador in 1635?

As for unique selling props, there are other companies featuring Jamaican cocoa exclusively.

Hi Ron, no I was pointing out that Ecaudor started growing cacao on scale 45 years or so before Jamaica.

I agree others have used Jamaican cacao for filled chocolates before, but I contend they haven't made it their USP.

1. This line from the review is confusing:
"Of course Jamaica is responsible for some fine cacao and plantation owners have grown the crop there since around 1680 – with Ecuador largely regarded as the first in the region when the Spanish Capuchin friars who brought the bean there in about 1635."

Ecuador first in what region? The Caribbean? The Ecuadorian littoral faces the Pacific Ocean.

Is this supposed to infer that Jamaica imported Ecuadorian cacao in 1635? What's the source of this claim?

2. Others have used Jamaican cacao in filled-chocolate prior to Black River.
