Chocolateque Truffles From Belgium

24 September 2009 in Chocolate Truffles by Lee

After reviewing some average chocolate its nice to be occasionally sent some absolutely fantastic chocolate truffles. Today 250g of
Chocolateque Truffles came into my procession and after a hectic day at work I spent a half an hour munching my way through them and enjoying every single second of the experience.

Firstly, its important to keep a note of the price of the truffles when reviewing them. This 250g box costs €14.50 which is about £13.23 at the current exchange rate. However, when I got this box out of its delivery packaging I was so mesmerised by its fantastic appearance that I completely forgot to look how much they cost. And for me, that’s saying something.

Just look at how pretty the box, bow and pearly ties are. I’m struggling to find any chocolates I’ve reviewed recently that come any close to how beautiful they look. The Caffè Macchiato Truffles From My Chocolate Bar were pretty, but these are just gorgeous. Untying the bow and opening the box I half expected to find some precious jewellery.

It’s really difficult trying to do these truffles justice with the photography. To be honest, I spent ages trying show them off. Hopefully I’ve done them justice.

The one problem I had was there was no guide to the truffles. It was basically I lucky pick. The first I tried was definitely a champagne truffle which was esquisite: soft, light, sweet and delicious are all adjectives that sum up the this truffle. I could easily enjoy a box just of these.

The second was a fantastically crunchy ganache which was completely different to the Champagne truffle. This was more rugged but still very delightful.

The next one I tried was a beautiful coconut truffle. I loved this, and my other half keep asking if there were any more in the box. Its also a crunchy affair and if you like coconut you should make a bee-line for this when you get your box.

Then these these other ones which we nice and dark and exceptionally nice. Thankfully there were a good few of these in the box.

The problem is that I can’t eat all of them now as I’ll probably have a major sugar rush, but suffice to say they are out of this world. I just loved the variety and not knowing what you were going to get next. You can easily go from praline to coconut truffle to Champagne truffle to caramel. You just don’t know and that’s half the fun.

If you are going to try these with someone else then I recommend you get two boxes and sit there together trying the same one at a time and compare notes. You’ll have a load of fun and a memorable evening.

I’m getting married in a few weeks and even though we’ve got the wedding favours planned, I’m seriously considering upgrading to these fantastic truffles. I’m sure everyone attending will be talking about them for weeks after.

There is the downside. Delivery to the UK is about £8, but they do come from Belgium and the prices for the truffles themselves are exceptionally good value. I’d pay at least £4 for such a fine box and bow anyway. I think they’re exceptionally good value for such great truffles.

You can buy them direct from Chocolateque.

Rating:

Taste: 95% – sumptuous, sexy, sweet, satisfying – how many more S’s do you need?

Texture: 90% – there’s great variety so its difficult to give an average score. But the texture ranges from soft and light to crunchy.

Appearance: 100% – the first time I’ve given 100% and its well deserved.

Nutritional Information – leaving off the score as I think they’re still getting their shop together and there wasn’t any. I’m sure the non-review versions will have basic information at least.

Price: 85% – the price is actually very good compared to other truffles I’ve reviewed recently

Overall: 92.5% – exceptional and if you’re looking for some luxury chocolates for a birthday or Christmas then these should be on your list.

Chocolateque also do chocolate bars of various cocao content so take a look at what else they have.

    1. [...] I’ve tried the Charbonnel et Walker Pink Champagne Truffles which I absolutely loved and their Banoffee Truffles which were nearly as good so I was looking forward to visiting their store. One thing you’ll realise is that the Charbonnel et Walker truffles have a hard ‘crust’ to them which means that you’ll prefer these or the much softer, and more true to the world ‘truffle’ ones that don’t have this hard shell. Good examples of these are the boozy ones or the ones from My Chocolate Bar or from Chocolateque. [...]
