Chocolate Advent Calendars

Chocolate Advent Calendars are important to me as I used to wait in excitement for the last couple days of November to be given that year’s advent calendar – and the last few years that I lived with my parents they always used to contain chocolate. Blame my mother for my chocolate addiction. The great things about chocolate advent calendars is that there’s just so much variety available. As we get closer to December 1st I’ll be updating this list of chocolate advent calendars, but if I miss any out, feel free to contact me at the top of the page to let me know of any.

Children’s Chocolate Advent Calendars

Obviously this is who most chocolate advent calendars are aimed at so there should be no shortage of choice. What you do need to think about is how much you want to spend and the quality of the chocolates

Hotel Chocolat have a great twist on the advent calendars for children. Instead of the usual brightly coloured, almost patronising design, they’ve gone for a lovely artistic and sophisticated appearance with a selection of their novelty chocolate figures inside. I definitely like the look of this one. They cost £12 each, weight 125g and are available from 23rd October.

Chocolate Advent Calendars For Teenagers

I bet that most teenagers would still appreciate to receive chocolate advent calendars – especially when the alternative appears often to be the boring ones that don’t even reflect anything of a religious nature. There seems to be more choice for teenagers this year than last.

Hotel Chocolat

Hotel Chocolat have aimed an advent calendar at the teenage market but understand that many people in their early twenties would still appreciate having a chocolate advent calendar to open each morning in December. The chocolates inside this one are milk chocolate and come with three games that will apparently “bamboozle you and your friends”. Just as with the advent calendar aimed at children, this one is also £12.

Dark Chocolate Advent Calendars

I prefer dark chocolate, and I know that there are many others like me out there. Over the past ten years or so we have seen a greater number of advent calendars aimed at dark chocolate lovers – and that can only be a good thing. I’ve tried a huge variety of dark chocolate from all around the world so hopefully I can point you in the right direction.

Hotel Chocolat

These guys do some lovely, but accessible dark chocolate – they even have their own plantation in Saint Lucia. Now I know their single origin chocolate is very good, but their house dark chocolate from a variety of sources is still very nice indeed. One thing that I do notice about dark chocolate from Hotel Chocolat is that you always want more and it’s more suitable for people that may not be connoisseurs of dark chocolate so may not like the very bitter stuff, but still like a change for milk chocolate. This dark chocolate advent calendar should prove a nice alternative for them this year.

Chocolate Advent Calendars For Adults

Most of the chocolate advent calendars here will be contain milk chocolate, but will be presented in a way that isn’t at all childish and will provide more of a robust and quality feel than those chocolate advent calendars aimed at kids.

Hotel Chocolat

This advent calendar is firmly aimed at adults. They call it the Ultimate Milk Chocolate Advent Calendar and is definitely more chocolaty than most milk chocolate advent calendars which typically only have 20% or 23% cocoa content – the chocolates inside this advent calendar has either 40% or 50% cocoa levels. They won’t be bitter by any stretch of the imagination, just they’ll have more depth of flavour and be more luxurious. Because this advent calendar is heavier at 175g and has better quality chocolates it costs £17 rather than the £12 that the children’s advent calendars cost.

Advent Calendars For Couples

Chocolate Advent Calendars For Couples

Grown-ups and adults love chocolates too, and I’m sure they’ll be partial to a chocolate advent calendar as well. But if you don’t want to buy two different advent calendars for a couple, if they’re your son or daughter-in-law included then you might want to get the one advent calendar they can share. There aren’t so many advent calendars for couples available, but I’ll try and seek some out and see how good they are.

Hotel Chocolat

The guys there have given me one of these huge advent calendars for two people that I’ll be reviewing very soon. What I can tell from looking at it is that it’s a very hefty advent calendar as it weights 260g but includes a wide range of truffles inside. On the back it’s got the selection including caramel and cherry truffles, Gianduja truffles, cinnamon truffles, lemon truffles, caramel and rum truffles and orange truffles. And at £22 for the two people then I don’t think its bad value – especially when it’ll last three and a half weeks!
