Chocoholly Organic Milk Chocolate Infused with Cardamom

14 October 2009 in Cardamom, Milk Chocolate, Organic by Lee

One of the main reasons I review chocolate is to try chocolate from producers that many just wouldn’t of heard of purely because it is often difficult for them to break the dominance of the “big boys”. Thanks to Twitter I found Chocoholly and it looks like Holly is going from strength to strength as she’s doing chocolate tastings in John Lewis’s food halls – great going!

Well Holly sent me this Organic Milk Chocolate bar infused with Cardamom. Now, I’ve reviewed a Cardamom chocolate bar before and absolutely loved it, and it’s just the same with Holly’s bar. It was delightful.

As I’m predominantly a dark chocolate fan it often takes something unusual for me to be anything than ambivalent to milk chocolate. And what I love about this bar the most, is obviously the flavour – soft and sexy. It’s a wonderfully smooth bar, perfect for lazy evenings when you don’t want anything too heavy. When trying to describe the effect this chocolate has, what comes to mind is a warm summer’s day with your feet in the cool sea with a nice warm wind blowing. This chocolate bar is comforting without being overly sweet and assaulting your mouth with strong flavours. The chocolate bar is purely a delight.

Another aspect I liked was the symmetrical, pristine, precise design of the bar. The chocolate is very smooth and not at all rustic. It was a surprise to see such strict form of chocolate given the artistic design to the packaging.

What I also love is Holly’s openness about how she became to be a chocolatier, not with passion for chocolate, but art. However, if you think about it, they are one in the same:

Overall, I’d really give this bar a try if you are at all interested in trying something different. If you like Montezuma’s chocolate I’m sure you’ll love Chocoholly‘s.

Rating:

Taste: 85% – a well balanced, inoffensive, mellow chocolate bar.

Texture: 80% – It’s a very soft chocolate bar with a pleasant melt.

Appearance: 90% – I loved both the design of the packaging and the look of the bar itself.

Nutritional Information: 70% – there’s certainly adequate information to be going on with.

Price: 60% – they’re not cheap at £4.75 a bar from Not On The Highstreet or £4 (you have to buy two bars) from the Natural Store.
