After the Charbonnel et Walker English Fruit Crèmes, I’m trying some more of their forthcoming collection in the form of some White Chocolate Strawberry Truffles. I know I shouldn’t say it, but when I first got them out of the packaging they reminded me of the pretty terrible Hot Cross Bun Chocolate Truffles I reviewed this Easter. Thankfully these were a lot better, and this summer you’ll be able to buy a box of 12 of these for £12 online and from their various stores and concessions.
I must admit I do really like Charbonnel et Walker as I’m a sucker for a good truffle and I love fruity flavoured chocolates. But these truffles are made from white chocolate and I normally don’t get on well with white chocolate. But these strawberry truffles are very nice indeed.
There may not be a huge amount of depth or character. But they lack in that department, they more than make up in light, playful fun. What comes to mind when I enjoy is the scene from Pretty Women – no not that one! – the one where they’re playing Polo as these truffles are that sort of sophisticated distraction from the usual grind. They may not have a wow factor that will knock your socks off, but they’ll give your feet a good tickle.
The aroma is mild, with a slight hint of the natural strawberry flavouring and the fleck of dried strawberry which has been placed on the top. The shell is fairly solid which does take a bit of pressure to break through. But on the inside your hard work is rewarded with a soft, moist centre which isn’t too sweet, but still has sufficient character to be a pleasing end to the experience.
The flavours to last a good while and you’ll probably just sit there for a while as they very slowlsy subside. And then you’ll find yourself reaching for another.
I’d say these Charbonnel et Walker White Chocolate Strawberry Truffles would be perfect for a dinner party so I suggest getting some when they out this summer.
