This is the new <a href="http://www.chocolatereviews.co.uk/out/u.php?25"target="_blank"title="" >Cadbury advert coming out this weekend. I think I get it. It looks like we’ll have a good run of Olympics type adverts from Cadbury over the next couple of years. Of course this advert reminded me of Finding Nemo. But I’m struggling to find what it had to do with chocolate – just like the Flake advert. But hey ho. They’re worth a few billion, and I’m not.

And if you wanted to know what the music to this Cadbury fish advert is. Well its Hotcha Corni by Spike Jones. It’s a catchy song if you me!!

And for those of you who want to know what type of fish is in the advert, well its a Female Spotty!

The spotty (Notolabrus celidotus) has different colorations for males and females. So named due to a spot or spots on their otherwise rather nondescript bodies, they are endemic to New Zealand and are found all around the coast. Members of the wrasse family (Labridae), they are opportunistic feeders, eating a wide variety of food. Small crustaceans are favoured by juveniles, while adults seek larger prey such as crabs and brittle stars. Also known by the names kelpie, guffy and the Māori paketi, it is a popular catch among children fishing from wharves.

There’s been some great Cadbury adverts in the past. Even though the latest Cadbury Flake Advert was shrouded in controversy – what do you think of the new sponsored Cadbury Wispa Duo adverts doing the rounds?

I’m yet to investigate this new incarnation of the Wispa so would love your feedback.

Ok. So I missed the new <a href="http://www.chocolatereviews.co.uk/out/u.php?25"target="_blank"title="" >Cadbury Flake ad from a couple of nights ago. But those that actually saw it might have thought they were watching and advert for Dulux paints, but has been the trend of Cadbury’s TV Adverts over recent years – they’ve been getting a bit more surreal!

Whether the advert which features Russian model Yulia Lobova and a dress by Anthony Price and a 200 meters of material is a rip off of the Kate Moss for Alexander McQueen feature is another thing.

The important thing to note, however, is that the strapline “only the flakiest” has gone. Sad news me thinks!

And we knew this would happen. It appears that Kraft have started negotiations to cut 600 British jobs with the news that they plan to close their Kraft UK head office in Cheltnam and integrate some people into various different <a href="http://www.chocolatereviews.co.uk/out/u.php?25"target="_blank"title="" >Cadbury offices around the country. It also looks like some of the customer service jobs in Sheffield and Banbury could be lost – which could total another 150.

So it looks like the total (expected) job losses will exceed 1,000 after the announcement in February that it would close the Cadbury facility near Bristol.

One good note is that it looks like the Bournville site will be come the ‘centre of excellence’ for chocolate makeing and R&D.

A million miles away from the Paul A. Young 64% Madagascan Dark Chocolate With Sea Salt we have this <a href="http://www.chocolatereviews.co.uk/out/u.php?25"target="_blank"title="" >Cadbury‘s Dairy Milk Bar of Plenty – Berry Fruit & Vanilla Shortcake and I must admit, Dairy Milk is a guilty pleasure and all these new bars are taking me down a road I don’t want to go down – low cocoa content confectionary. But at £1 a bar in my local supermarket, I couldn’t resist.

<img src="http://www.chocolatereviews.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/cadbury1.jpg"alt="Cadburys Dairy Milk Bar of Plenty - Berry Fruit & Vanillla Shortcake" title="Cadburys Dairy Milk Bar of Plenty - Berry Fruit & Vanillla Shortcake" width="550" height="368" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-2458" />

I love the fruity packaging of this bar with the Willy Wonka-style lettering. This bar was just too good to walk by without trying. I might not do a complete review as I do with fine chocolate, but I’m sure I’ll do it justice.

For the price of £1 I got myself 140g of their Dairy <a href="http://www.chocolatereviews.co.uk/milk-chocolate/"target="_self"title="" >Milk chocolate laced with cranberries (9%) and vanilla shortcake (9%) and at that price it’s not bad value. We all know what Dairy Milk tastes like. You don’t need me to tell you, but when they combine it with their flavours then they do radically change its nature. With this bar the cranberries do add another dimension, but I felt that the 9% was just a little too much. There was just a little too much sweetness that when combined with the sugar within the normal Dairy Milk offering, it was to sickly.

The shortbread did offer a respite, somewhat. Not only to the soft texture but also acted against the sharp, citrus taste. But as we’re not talking gourmet chocolate, you’ll find yourself knocking it back like it was going out of fashion – unfortunately. After you’ve consumed half of it your mouth will be awash with a citrusy taste that could be pleasant, or unpleasant, depending on which way you swing with cheap chocolate. Personally, I enjoyed the process of eating it, but not the bloated, sugarific feeling afterwards. I’ll place the rest of the bar where I can’t find it and hope the chocolate fairy takes it back where it came from.

A guilty pleasure indeed, but pleasures born out of the finest ingredients should be where it’s at!

<legend>Rating:</legend>

Taste: 60% – nice, but not awe-inspiring

Texture: 70% – the crunchiness goes well with the soft fruit and almost velvety milk chocolate

Appearance: 75% – I loved the packaging and the actual chocolate brings back those childhood memories.

Nutritional Information: 80% – great, as usual

Price: 90% – the £1 price tag can’t last forever. If you like cheap chocolate, get in quick

Overall: 67% – the score was only high due to non-taste factors. I’ll actually reduce it to 67% (should have been 75%)

So Cadbury have banned their own Flake advert for being too sexy. So how sexy have they become? We look back at 50 years of Cadbury adverts below. What do you think of them and how many do you remember?

2009

Zingolo Advert – September 23rd 2009

This advert was to promote their new Fair Trade status. It was pretty funky, and another in the WTF category! It’s pretty damn cool though!

Eyebrows Advert January 23rd 2009

Not my favourite <a href="http://www.chocolatereviews.co.uk/out/u.php?25"target="_blank"title="" >Cadbury‘s advert to be honest. The first time you see it you have the same thought as the Gorilla one, but after a while it gets a bit boring. Perhaps it’s because that girl looks like trouble?

Cadbury Creme Egg Bar

How short is that? I never tried the bars anyway!

2008

Airport Advert – April 2nd 2008

Not my favourite this one. There’s too much going on. If I wanted a Need For Speed moment I’d get my Xbox 360 out!

Joss Stone Flake Advert

She’s cute, but should she be doing chocolate adverts?

2007

Gorilla Advert Aug 31st 2007 – UK

Phil Collins has to be one of the greatest musical artists of all time. In The Air Tonight is one of my most favourite inspirational tunes to listen to when you need a kick up the backside. The first time I saw it I was thinking “what the heck is going on here?” Does Cadbury’s have anything to do with Gorillas? Well I don’t think their chocolate is supported by the Rain Forrest Alliance, but at least it is now FairTrade Chocolate.

2006?

Another short and sweet Creme Egg

2001?

Cadbury’s Boost Advert

Vic and Bob what a comedy duo. The advert wasn’t bad either!

1996

Cadbury’s Wispa Gold Advert

It’s the caramel boyo! I’m not the biggest fan of this bar. But I know loads of you love it!

1995?

Cadbury’s Parrot Advert

Ha – what a snooker player. Not the best actor. But still a funny advert!

1994

Cadbury’s Creme Egg

The “How Do You Do it” question became incredibly popular! This was some more marketing genius from Cadbury!

1994?

Cadbury’s Strollers Advert

Wow! I remember the advert, but when did they stop making the Strollers?

Cadbury’s Time Out Advert

I don’t think House would have one of these tucked into his white coat! They weren’t all that bad though!

1993

Cadbury’s Picnic Advert

Ahh I remember this advert now. A bit too peanuty for me though!

1992

Cadbury’s Milk Tray Advert

This one was a big step forward to the Milk Tray Adverts from the 1960′s and 1970′s in terms of sensuality. In this one they change “All because the lady loves Mil Tray” to “All because the Lady Loves Cadbury’s Milk Tray”. Personally I don’t think they need to do that!

1991?

Oooh! I so love Cadbury’s Crunchies! And this is another tune that sticks in the brain.

Cadbury’s Mirages Advert

Ooh! I remember this one now! The tune is a bit naff, and it doesn’t really say much!

Cadbury’s Spira Advert

Did I miss this one? Did it ever come to the UK? I’m not sure it did.

1990

Cadbury Twirl Advert

I still love Twirls to this day! They’re fantastic! This advert probably didn’t win any Oscar’s however!

Cadbury’s Dairy Milk Photographer Advert

Cadbury’s started to spend more and more on their adverts in 1990 and this is another interesting one that didn’t get all sexual.

Cadbury’s Double Decker Advert

Not the most imaginative this one, but it still shows the different flavours they’ve got in the bar. It still didn’t make me go out and buy it in arms full.

1989?

Cadbury’s Dairy Milk Advert

I’m not sure on the exact date here, but the adverts are definitely getting more racy!

Cadbury Inspirations Advert

I definitely don’t remember this one! Does anyone?

1988

Cadbury’s Fruit And Nutcase

A more imaginative advert this one. And yes I did used to have a hair style like that!

1985

Cadbury’s Flake – Exact Date Unknown

Very sexual indeed! Ah this blast from the past reminds me of nipping up to the shop to buy more chocolate than was safe for any young boy to eat.

Cadbury’s Fudge Advert

To me this is one of the most memorable TV advert tunes. “A finger of fudge is just enough to give a girl a treat”. I bet you’ll be humming that to yourself for the rest of the day.

Curly Wurly

3p? oooh how I wish chocolate was still 3p! I’m starting to feel old!

1984?

Hi-De-Hi!!! Such a blast from the past and I love it! Great stuff. Anyone want to through me into a pool wearing women’s tights?

1983

Cadbury Picnic

Don’t you just love the old retro packaging?

1980

Cadbury’s Caramel Advert

This is still one of my most favourite adverts and worked a treat on me. I’m not a big fan of caramel these days. But the advert is a classic!

1979

Cadbury’s Whole Nut Advert

Far from being their best but like some of their chocolate it was short and sweet.

1975

Fruit & Nut-Case

Perhaps not the most memorable advert there ever was. But it still has a gorgeous glow of yesteryear!

1968

Cadbury Nut Milk Chocolate

Tony Hancock was a complete genius! This advert might have been lacking in length, but Tony made up for that in character. Missed.

1960′s / 1970′s

Milk Tray Adverts

This is a wonderful collection of Milk Tray Adverts from 40 and 50 years ago. Aren’t they great? The black and white James Bond type adverts are complete classics!

I was never a huge fan of the Cadbury’s Creme Egg as a kid they were too messy for me. But like beer and late nights staring at the bottom of the accompanying glass, things change as you get older. Having matured I now fully appreciate their beauty.

I know they could never compare with the Askinosie chocolate bar for emotional satisfaction, but purely on a prime-evil desire to get chocolaty goo down you when you tuck into something that has no nutritional value, there’s something amazing about these mini, filled <a href="http://www.chocolatereviews.co.uk/category/easter-eggs/"title="" >Easter eggs.

Cadbury’s Creme Eggs are synonymous with Easter. They sell in their millions at Easter and is why there are now a huge variety of imitators such as the Mars Filled Eggs, the Lindt Lindor Mini Milk Chocolate Filled Eggs and the Galaxy filled mini eggs.

We all know, however, that nothing can compete for our attention as much as the mighty Cadbury Creme egg. The <a href="http://www.chocolatereviews.co.uk/milk-chocolate/"target="_self"title="" >milk chocolate shell may be average, the one interior sickly-sweet and the yellow yoke unappetising on its own. But these are our Creme eggs, we need them like the air that we breathe.

Just look at the goo. What is so wonderful about these things is that they’re almost life-like. As you eat them you don’t know which side of your chin the filling will cover on the way to your feet or lap. This unexpected nature to the Creme egg is what keeps us coming back year after year – and more frequently for some!

I don’t need to review them really. We all know what they’re like. It’d be like rating your Christmas presents in front of your mother. Suffice to say, they’ll be a present in my house come Easter.

If you wanted to buy them in bulk or wholesale prices you can from Chocolate Buttons for £17.95 for a box of 48 or £2.85 for a pack of 6. Direct from Cadbury’s you can get a box of 48 for the higher price of £21. A Quarter Of sell 5 for £2.42.

It was a tough call. I had to choose between reviewing the Galaxy Cookie Crumble chocolate bar or this <a href="http://www.chocolatereviews.co.uk/out/u.php?25"target="_blank"title="" >Cadbury Dairy Milk Double Chocolate bar. Of course I went for the double chocolate one for a couple of reasons. The first is that I just love what Cadbury are doing at the moment with coming out with a range of different versions of the Dairy Milk bar (see the Dairy Milk with Apricot Crumble Crunch) and also because I just love double chocolate cookies (especially from Asda)).

What I loved about the bar is that when you open it you get a fantastically sweet double choc aramo that mimics that of the cookies exceptionally well. This is a huge plus point for me!

What I got when I bit into the chocolate bar was completely unexpected. I thought I’d get darker chocolate pieces incorporated into it. What I actually got was like a chocolaty caramel filling. I just wish they used dark chocolate, may be at around 65%, instead of this non-event of a filling. It is nice and I’m sure I’ll be enjoying the bar sometime over the next week.

This is the main issue. The bar is so sweet that I’m sure many of you would find it difficult to have more than a line of the four squares in anyone go. It’s so sweet that I’ve almost downed a pint of orange squash to take the flavour away.

Again, Cadbury offer exceptional nutritional information that essentially can’t be surpassed. Another excellent note is the price, I paid £1.58 from Asda, but you can also get it from Sainsburys for £1.79.

But I’ll leave this thought with you … each chunk has 40 calories!!!! FORTY!!

<fieldset>
<legend>Rating:</legend>

Taste: 64% – It’s not bad, but a bit too sweet for me, and I’d say most of you out there that have tasted <a href="http://www.chocolatereviews.co.uk/milk-chocolate/"target="_self"title="" >milk chocolate like the Valrhona Jivara Fine 40% bar.

Texture: 57% – we know that Dairy Milk isn’t the pinnacle of milk chocolate and that, given it only has a minimum 20% cocoa content, its going to have a slightly oily texture so I can rate it too highly. Also the caramel-type centre is a bit too sticky for me.

Appearance: 76% – its got the typical Dairy Milk branding which isn’t as big a departure from the iconic styling as the apricot Dairy Milk bar.

Nutritional Information: 90% – great stuff

Price: 80% – a nice priced bar

Overall: 73.4% – the score is only really raised because of the nutritional information is so great. Otherwise it would have had a score of 69.25%

Another impulse buy as I just popped to the local corner shop. I got these for about £2.20. However, I’ve found that Tesco do them for £1.67, Asda £1.66 or 3 for £4 until the end of the year, Sainsbury’s for £1.85 and Ocado for £1.84 – find out the latest prices here.

I’m currently on hold to T-Mobile trying to do something very simple in cancelling my mobile phone contract. So far its been 17 minutes and I’ve been munching my way through the fantastic <a href="http://www.chocolatereviews.co.uk/out/u.php?25"target="_blank"title="" >Cadbury Chocolate Peanuts! This is the only thing that’s stopping me from exhibiting anti-social behavour.

What I love about these chocolate peanuts is that they manage to strike the balance between the <a href="http://www.chocolatereviews.co.uk/milk-chocolate/"target="_self"title="" >milk chocolate and the peanut whilst keeping the salt levels down – this is what the Reese’s Cups just fails to do. There is a slight downside in that they’re quite dry. But if you’re in a cinema with a big soft drink or at home with a cuppa then you shouldn’t really notice it!

There’s another thing that I like which is that you’re eating whole peanuts, they’re not reconstituted from the peanuts that are a by-product of making other products. You’re enjoying pretty decent peanuts coated in chocolate.

As a quick review I’d give them a score of 75% as they’re incredibly difficult to stop eating once you’ve tried them!!

This is the thing that’s confusing me, I don’t know if I bought this <a href="http://www.chocolatereviews.co.uk/out/u.php?25"target="_blank"title="" >Cadbury Caramellow on holiday or in this country. I say that because on the wrapping its got “manufactured by <a href="http://www.hersheys.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank"title="" >Hershey‘s” and after my previous experiences I’m thinking it may be different from the previous ones I’ve tried. Alas my fears are unfounded, it actually does taste like Cadbury chocolate, phew!

It’s obviously much like the Wispa Gold but not as light and fluffy. It’s not exactly a substantial bar as there’s a fair bit of gooey caramel in it, but this caramel does make it extremely sweet – too sweet for my taste buds.

I might have got it from Handy Candy for 99p, but I think even that’s too much. The chocolate is nice and light, you can’t really go far wrong with Cadbury’s chocolate if you’re looking for a snack, but when you combine it with the excessive amounts of caramel then its likely that’ll be too sweet. And when you consider that the bar is 57.8% sugar according to its nutritional information then you should probably take that as an indicator of how sweet it is!

Quick Rating: 45%

If you did want to buy the Cadbury Caramello, then you them, or similar bars from:
