Belgian Chocolate seems to have a great marketing machine behind it. It seems that Americans go crazy for it and a good number of us Brits love it to. But generally I’m a touch unconvinced. There are some great chocolatiers in Belgium such as Pierre Marcolini but often the chocolate you will find there are more creamy than I’d like. There is one thing to be said about the country, however, and that’s they’ve got more chocolate shops in their than we do have pubs, and Belgium is a fraction of the size of the UK! Also, don’t confuse “Belgium chocolate” with chocolate from Belgium, the former is a style that many try and recreate, but fail to live up to the hype.
Undoubtably one of my chocolate highlights of 2010. If you ever get the chance to try a Geert Vercruysse Selection I can assure you, you won't regret it!
These Wittamer Classic Carré didn't look too great, but the flavours and textures of the assortment was actually exceptional. My personal favourite was the pepper ganache.
These chocolates from Moko could have been so much better seeing as the packaging was great. Unfortunately the chocolates themselves weren't all that great.
I thought the Waitrose Fruit And Nut Belgian Milk Chocolate was very bland and unappealing. Although if you like the Cadbury's version, give this a go.
