Caffè Macchiato Truffles

Heaven, I’m in heaven.

There’s a new chocolatier in town. And they’re My Chocolate Bar. I found out they were just starting out on Twitter and thought I’d welcome them. What I didn’t expect at the time was to receive a box of two types of truffles – this bag of Caffè Macchiato Truffles and another of Sicilian Orange Truffles. For me to say “heaven” in relation to orange and coffee chocolate, they must be absolutely divine. Thankfully they’re more than that.

I’m going to do a proper review of what they have on offer, prices, delivery and packaging etc later on – I’m too engrossed in these chocolates. But suffice to say, the packaging was absolutely amazing! It came in a beautiful green box with a big black bow and a label so you can write a nice message if you’re giving it as a gift. Top marks here. Pauline and Mark also give a nice little introductory note to let you know how to keep them if you’re not devouring them straight away. I was surprised at the best before date so if you’re buying them as a present I’d order them at most 10 days or so before you’re giving them as the best before date is usually about two weeks after they’re hand made.

The beauty goes down to the individual bags of truffles as well. They just look so amazing. The aroma is the delightful one that just encapsulates great truffles. Very sweet and creamy. If you’re not drooling as soon as you untie the bow then there’s something wrong with you!

The close up picture doesn’t do them justice. The coating is flaky, slightly nutty and … oh I don’t know. Lush?

The truffle centre is soft, creamy, with a perfect coffee flavour and not over-powering. If there was a God then he’d let you eat these all day without getting rotund! I just can’t explain how fantastic they taste. You just have to try them yourself to understand. Sublime is perhaps a great word?

There is only one downside. There’s only 9 in a packet. It’s taken me 10 minutes to eat three whilst typing this and taking the photos. I expect for most of you they wouldn’t even last that long! And sharing? If anyone mentions “sharing” them then have your answer ready and fast shoes on as there’s no way I’ll be sharing these with anyone!

I’ve got some of their Sicilian Orange Truffles to review too. I’ll save them tomorrow after I’ve forked out for new tires so the truffles will cheer me up a bit. I’m sure they’ll do the trick!

You can buy them direct (I’m sure many chocolate shops would love to sell them) for £4.50 for a 120g bag or £10 for a 250g box. It’s well worth it!

Rating:

Taste: 99.5% – they so hit the spot it was unreal. I NEED more!

Texture: 99.5% – almost perfect, soft inside and slightly less soft outside.

Appearance: 99.5% – excellent all over. Great box, beautiful packaging, nice label. Everything about the appearance was fantastic.

Nutritional Information: 77% – as with the raw chocolate, you can’t expect small chocolate makers to invest in all the scientific tests. The information was more than suitable.

Price: 75% – they’re not cheap, but they’re not mass-produced rubbish. They fantastic value because you’ll be extremely glad you bought them.

Overall: 90.1% – the best truffles I’ve tasted this year. Buy them the Waitrose Amaretti Swiss Plain Chocolate Bar as well!

Buy direct from My Chocolate Bar!
