This Biona Organic Praline Chocolate Bar Filled With Nougat Of Hazelnuts was another purchase from Goodness Direct. The thought of trying something different was there. But I have a real dislike for praline chocolates. I’ll give it a go, but I fear that others will enjoy it more than me.
I think one of the attractions of this bar is that its certified organic by the Organic Food Federation and anyone that wants to be totally sure that what they’re eating is from organic ingredients can be rest assured with this seal of “approval”.
Another factor that others may welcome is that it uses raw cane sugar and not processed white stuff. Also, if you were interested, the filling is 50% hazelnuts, 35% raw cane sugar and thin a mixture of cocoa butter, whole milk powder, whey powder and Bourbon vanilla. Overall its 33% cocoa solids.
After writing that I’m sat here with trepidation before I take a bite as I know it’ll be too sweet for me. The aroma is extremely sweet whilst the flavour has a strange complexion to it. It is definitely sweet, but there’s a whole load more going on there. You can definitely taste the hazelnuts (which isn’t surprising), but its also very buttery. After 2 or 3 mouthfuls it started to get a bit too much for me and had to reach for the cuppa located close by like a pale of water next to a fire.
If you like your very sweet chocolate and don’t suffer from diabetes then perhaps give this a go. But for me its bordering on the insanely sweet. And, I’d suggest that people avoid it, unless you’re mad.
Rating:
Taste: 20% – too sweet, too buttery. It’d be cheaper to eat some sugary butter.
Texture: 40% – at first it was ok, then I kept thinking of the buttery taste which made the bar feel even more fatty.
Appearance: 40% – well its a better looking chocolate bar than the http://www.chocolatereviews.co.uk/2009/04/plamil-dairy-free-chocolate-with.htmlPlamil Dairy Free Chocolate Bar with Shelled Hemp Seeds, but still the packaging and design on the chocolate is disappointing.
Nutritional Information: 55% – they give you the quantities of the ingredients but don’t offer RDA amounts or calorie information.
Overall: 38.75% – one of the worst chocolate bars I’ve tasted this year.
