Amedei Chuao 70% Dark Chocolate Bar
16 April 2009 in 70% Dark Chocolate, Amedei, Rating 85%-89% by Lee
Some people get excited by fine wine, fast cars, a meal at an expensive restaurant. For me, chocolate is something to be enjoyed to a degree far more than any from that list. And why? Because sometimes you find yourself unwrapping a bar of chocolate just like undressing a beautiful women.
There’s few bars of chocolate I’d like to savour more than this from Amedei. The packaging reminds me of a box of expensive pencils – its long and thin. Obviously what’s inside is far more enjoyable. As you delicately open the top, you’ll slide out what looks like a bar of gold. But what you actually get is far more precious (to me) – its a great bar of chocolate.
This Amedei Chuao 70% Dark Chocolate Bar may cost £5.50 for 50g (11p/g) but I’d pay more than that. You may only get 10 squares, but do you see massive plates of grub at fine restaurants, or do you get small plates of absolutely exquisite food? This is up there with some of the best, but I hope I find better on my quest to enjoy the best (and worst) chocolate the world has to offer.
When you actually break off a square to taste you’ll notice that you’ll just nibble a small piece, concious of the cost – this is the best way to enjoy it as every small bite is packed full of flavour.
The aroma is delightful but is just foreplay before your moments of pleasure that you’ll enjoy as you take each and every bite. I’m not sure how others will taste it, but its got an intense summer fruits flavour mixed with rounded sugar and incredibly soft whilst it melts in your mouth.
The only problem is that I’m enjoying it too much and whilst I’ve got a box of other great chocolate from Chocolate Trading Co, I know I have to review some of the cheaper stuff for the masses.
Rating:
Taste: 90% – Like a great night you’ll never forget
Texture: 90% – Like silk pyjamas
Price: 80% – Costly, but not expensive. Simply put – value for money
Overall: 86.7%

[...] The blogosphere and the chocolate world when it was announced that Amedei were to be usurped from the mantel of having sole rights to producing chocolate from the village of Chuao in Venezuela. Now Amano have produced a bar from where Amedei say “where the history of the world’s finest cocoa is planted”. And the bar I review here is made with that same cocoa. But how does it compare to the Amedei Chuao? [...]
