La Maison Du Chocolat Akosombo 68% Dark Chocolate Bar
I might have not liked the buying experience from the time I popped in to buy some chocolate from the La Maison du Chocolat store but I did like the Talamanca Noisettes 37% Milk Chocolate bar I bought from them and I really do like this bar too -but they won’t like what I’m going to compare it to -the Ikea Dark Chocolate.
There may not be any similarity in terms of quality, and indeed price as this bar was more than fifteen times the price. But both bars had a caramel note to it. But that’s where the similarities end. The smoothness of this dark chocolate bar is something I haven’t witnessed in quite a while – this may be because I’ve been on a bon bon and truffle chocolate mission recently, but it should still be a compliment.
This chocolate just melts with no effort and as it does so, it releases a variety of fruity notes that seem to lift off the tongue. After they’ve hit the roof of your mouth then a second flavour takes over. This flavour is more of a Mellow Birds coffee flavour. There’s also vanilla and caramel in their too. This bar is a complex creature. It’s sleek and sophisticated exterior belies a more intriguing creation inside. My hat off to them.
In the next couple of weeks I’ll be reviewing similar bars from Paul A. Young and the new bars from The Chocolate Café so there’s a good amount to look forward to in the world of plain chocolate.
