Valrhona Dark Chocolate - Caraibe 66% Cacao

This Valrhona Caraibe Dark Chocolate is a mixture of some of the finest cocoa beans from a variety of Caribbean islands and as a result is beautifully mild blend that seduces you into taking one piece after another.


The packaging reminds me of a fine French cigarillo, but with a hint of sophistication and luxurious mini-moments as you try the each bite which is as you expect as it's at the lower end of the dark chocolate cocao scale at 66%.


As its Grand Cru, its obviously at the top level of quality so if you're thinking that because its only 66% that it may not be to your liking if you much prefer darking chocolate, however, its smoothness is very much a factor that should make you give it a try.

The colour of the Valrhona Caraibe may give you the impression that it's milkier than it actually is. You can obviously taste the higher sugar content but it does leave a very distinct cocoa taste as you consume it and there's many layers to the taste that should keep you satisfied with every mouthful. One of the layers that I enjoyed was the woody one that gently nudges at the sweet flavours and takes precedence as the bar melts in your mouth.

The texture is just as smooth as the flavour, there's no horrible grittiness as you can come across in some of the cheaper bars whilst the aroma is very "organic". There's no harsh chemical aroma that you get with the mass produced stuff, but there is a very natural aroma.

Now the price. You can get a 70g bar from the Chocolate Trading Company for £2.95 (4.2p/g) which is very reasonable for a chocolate bar of that quality!
